Diamonds cut before the establishment of the brilliant cut in the early 1900s are collectively referred to as 'antique diamonds.' Those that are cut in modern times to mimic these are sometimes called 'modern antique cuts.'

While the brilliant cut sparkles in a uniform and vibrant manner, antique diamonds sparkle like the flame of a candle. Maybe the princesses in fairy tales were wearing these kind of diamonds.
